It’s cold. It’s snowing outside. You are coming home from work tired. Because of your exhaustion, you are even colder and can’t wait to come home. You are thinking about  how you are going to fill the bathtub and lay down in it.

You probably have done this a couple of times, but in the following text you will find out how a warm bath makes an impact on your mental health.

1 – It is relaxing – it relaxes your muscles and raises your body temperature to the point that it will help you fall asleep faster. Just be careful, don’t fall asleep in the bathtub.

2 – It is very healthy for the skin – it opens and cleans pores. It washes all the dirt out of the skin. After the bath, your skin will be smooth and soft, but also hydrated.

3 – It lowers blood sugar levels – It has been scientifically proved that a warm bath has an effect on  blood sugar levels and consumption of the energy, ie calories.

4 – It helps with headaches – warm water dilates blood vessels and reduces pressure on them, so the headache will go away with a warm bath.

5 – It improves circulation – water creates physical pressure on the body and increases the work of the heart, so the heart works a little faster and stronger.

It is worth mentioning that research has recently been done on how a warm bath makes an impact on the fight against depression. No one would have ever thought that a warm bath could help in that way. People prone to depression have a disturbed circadian cycle during sleep. In these cycles, body temperature varies, which encourages the body to produce melatonin, which helps us fall asleep. For the people with depression, these cycles may be delayed. People who participated in the warm bath experiment, after some time, reported that their symptoms decreased by 6 points on the scale used by experts to determine the level of depression.

In order to experience it better, you can put rose petals in the bath, add a little lavender and rosemary. You can also add some essential oils. You can also light a scented stick, a scented candle and play some inspiring music. On top of all that, you can also take a book and read it while you are surrendering to the relaxing moment.
